A beautiful poem….

Pay Me In Light

By Carol Ann Duffy

Pay me in light,

the sun’s bonanza

flung in handfuls through the trees,

amber in green leaves; pay me

in the silver lining of the clouds,

a percentage of rain.

Pay me in light,

the newly-minted moon,

the small-change stars,

the precious galaxy

sieved from space like gold,

a solitaire tear.

Pay me in light,

a candle’s tongue in the dark’s cheek,

sapphire lightning as we run for home,

your hand in mine, warm

as a small flame,

through lucky jackpot hail.

Carol Ann Duffy is a Scot and also the current British Poet Laureate.
