If you are looking for something to do during the summer holidays, particularly if you have children, then take a look at Jupiter Art Land, which is just outside Edinburgh, near Livingston. It’s a private estate which is gradually filling up with large-scale pieces of outdoor art and sculpture by well known names such as Iain Hamilton Finlay, Andy Goldsworthy, Anthony Gormley and Anya Gallacio, and it is open to the public. The installation by Charles Jenks (he of the sculptured grassy mounds which can be seen in Edinburgh at the Gallery of Modern Art) is particularly amazing, and children loved playing in and around this sculpture. It’s a super day out, even if you are not too fussed with art normally – the landscapes and views surrounding the estate are worth seeing anyway! Here is a small taster of what you can expect if you visit!
I’ve only put a handful of the 70(!) photos that I took, just to whet your appetite. At first glance it doesn’t look very big but I spent a pleasant three hours wandering around, and you could easily make a day of it as there is a cafe serving tasty treats all day. It’s only open in the summer however they don’t close for the season till the end of September so you have some time yet!
